The thread drift of rec.arts.sf.fandom never ceases to amaze me. Within 7 posts of bohemiancoast's comments on DFC the discussion has turned to the mating of bald eagles.

It seemed the only possible response to Graydon's post.

(Why is this friends-only?)

Because my criteria for Friends only is more or less "Do I want work people to read this?" and in this case I don't. Why? Because some of the stuff I post to rasseff isn't stuff I want work people to read and some of the stuff I post to rasseff leads to fandom stuff which is my business, not my colleagues' and which would mostly be far too complicated to explain.

Re: The thing that annoys me about rasff

The problem with changing the subject is that the conversation is so freeform it's hard to know when to change it. One person may think now is the time, but it doesn't mean that the other two people posting at the same time and veering along the same tangents will. Trying to enforce subject changes and follow the threads would really fracture the conversation. I don't know what the solution is. I didn't mind so much when I didn't have a LiveJournal addiction. I was keeping up back then. Now I'm about six thousand messages behind and it gets worse every day. I've never found a good way of dipping in - I seem to get all the politics and stuff I'm not interested in that way. I might go for choosing a few names I know and reading their stuff and seeing where that takes me.

Or I might just forget all about it for a bit and submerge myself further into LJ.

Re: The thing that annoys me about rasff

Whenever I change subject lines in rasff the thread immediately dies, while it goes merrily on under the original, no-longer relevant thread title.

I'm not reading rasff at present; although I know there's stuff I'll like in there, it's been too political for me for months now. I check the new threads for news items, however.
