A Noise

I go to bed at around 11.30pm now. By midnight I'm asleep. My neighbours, it turns out, are quite noisy. I think there are two unruly teens next door. There are a lot of kids around the neighbourhood hanging out on bikes and scooters, playing with footballs and the like during the early evenings. By 11, though, it's all quiet and I fall asleep easily in the silence at 11.30pm.

At 1am last night there was a nosie that woke me up. It was a single loud click. It sounded (to me, in my paranoid state) like the sound you would get if you pulled down a door handle then let go so it sprang back into place. I was immediately awake and checking at the windows. There didn't seem to be anybody around, front or back.

Interesting that it should happen at exactly 1am. Perhaps something in the house switches over at that time. I thought perhaps the video I left running had reached the end and ejected itself. No. I'm not aware of anything the heating is supposed to do at 1am. I wondered whether the bag of rubbish hung inside the bathroom cabinet had fallen. No. So I still don't know what it was. Five minutes of investigation and I was ready to go back to bed. I'm going to wonder what that was for a long time, though.

I wonder why a ghost haunting is the first thing I thought of? I don't even believe in that stuff. So I dunno about *real* reasons. If you're really worried you could stay up til 1am again and see if an identical noise happens at the same time, which would mean something working normally in the house. But that's a long shot.

Not just a long shot, but a long shot that would make me really, really tired. I get up at 5.30, remember.

i hear noises like that all the time. but they're usually attributed to the exterior door (just on the other side of the wall from my head) being slammed, or the hall door (right next to mine) being slammed, or other residents loudly coming home drunk...but i do have scary prophetic dreams ^_~

takes a while to get used to the new noises a place makes maybe? Where I'm living is made from wood/plasterboard. So I know exactly wot the guy upstairs is doing, [even when he takes a pee...] but it took me a while to get attuned to the types of noises there are here. The other night I heard a new noise. Convinced myself it was nothing, heard it a again and finally put the light on. There was a bug on the wall...aaarrgh...and after the X file that I just watched...gaaahhh...but you're probably right, it'll be something that your house does, how about the fridge or water tank?? Or the teens next door couldda been the cause too.

even when he takes a pee...]

TMI!

Re: new house sounds

"TMI"
please enlighten me, there are gaps in my education... ;)

Re: new house sounds

Too Much Information. I KNEW you wouldn't know what that meant as soon as I read it.

Re: new house sounds

Ahhh :) Thanx
...now should that comfort me I wonder or make me feel woefully inadequate?? [and excuse any spelling errors, I'm in 'testing' hell at the mo]

Re: new house sounds

Comfort, I think. It's not a common abbreviation and you already said you're new to all this net stuff.

By the way, I'm none too impressed with this lavender oil. It doesn't seem to do much. Smells nice, though.

Re: new house sounds

Thank you, U R a comfort :)

What exactly are you doin with it? [see how calm I'm being, even tho you have blasphemed??!!] *grin*

Re: new house sounds

what Max said.

I thought I may have said it before, never mind.
